My experience in Live Sound

This section is about my experience with my internship company Highnotes.

Highnotes is an AV rental company based in Bukit Batok that does roughly 500 events annually post covid and 800 events pre covid.

Over at Highnotes, I was given the role of an inern on the operations team. My main tasks were to handle event setups and teardowns regarding our sound systems and other logistics as well as to provide sound reinforcement services like live mixing during events.

Our events comprised of mostly band performances at corporate gigs or weddings, here are some examples of what the typical setup looked like.

Usually our setups consists of:

FOH speakers, the Bose L1 Pro16s or Bose L1 Pro32s

Floor monitors, Yamaha DBR10s or Bose S1 speakers

Our analogue mixer, the Yamaha MG16XU

Various musical instruments, usually guitar/bass, drums, saxophone, keyboard etc.

misc items like XLR cables, power trays, music stands, mics, DI boxes

Our usual clientele consists of corporate companies or newly wed couples seeking live entertainment for a venue which sees us usually having setups in large areas like ballrooms or restaurants. However this does not mean we were only confined to that environment as some clients have consulted us for more unorthodox setups like in outside venues (Fort Canning) or even in school spaces (SAJC)

Overall I am very grateful for my time with Highnotes as they gave me my very first experience of working in the audio industry, I feel more confident in my abilities and a sound engineer now as I have been able to handle multiple solo events and receiving great feedback from my peers and clients alike.

I am glad to be able to attribute my newly acquired technical knowledge to Highnotes and I hope to bring this skillset further into any other audio related ventures I embark on in the future.
